Houssen
When I visit this plantation Houssen guided me on behalf of her father (plantation owner). Hossen was studying agriculture and accounting at the university, helping her family in her holiday. Her family owned a two hectar plantation cultivating litchi, clove, coffee together with vanilla. Two young men who are relatives of Houssen was having pollination in the plantation.
What brought you to join the cooperative?
“Because there is no intermediator between us and processor, our crops can be sold for relatively higher prices.”
Houssen told about challenges as well:
“We need more tools for farming. We want more knives and rainproofs. A motor vehicle will help us transport crops much easily. Now we have to carry crops to a big road when we sell them.”
What do you want to use the income for?
“I want to use it for education and health of my family. Because a lot of money is needed to get good education, I want to earn more income.”
Houssen told me passionately:
“Now I’m studying accounting at the university. I want to help my farther’s work after graduation. I love this place and farming as my parents had told me how to farm since I was a child. Faming is like leisure for me. I want to help farming, improve it and get more successes!!”
