Yoland
Yoland manages a 0.5 hectar plantation cultivating vanilla, clove, litchi, coco, pepper, coffee, paineapple and banana with his husband. They joined the cooperative in 2008 and started producing vanilla in 2012. Yoland is a fashionable plantation owner and a mother of two boys. I had an interview with her with walking in her plantation.
What brought you to join the cooperative?
“This is because the cooperative buy all crop produced by member farmers. They also tell us how to cultivate crops. It helps us a lot”
What kind of advantages do you feel as a member of the cooperative?
“Because the cooperative buy crops for relatively higher prices our income has increased enabling us to hire farmers to help us.”
What kind of challenges do you have?
“The biggest problem is theft. Over a half of our vanilla was stolen last season. I will prepare securities this season.“
What is your dream?
“I want to rebuild my house making it much stronger enough to withstand cyclones.“
