About transportation around the Island
However there are some railways in Madagascar, they are far from enough to satisfy the needs of people to move around the country. Therefore air plane and bus are the options, however because an air ticket is expensive, most of people use bus.
The eye-catch photo is the picture of the bus. It looks more share-ride taxi rather than bus. People say it “taxi-brousse”. There are many many bus companies in the capital Antananarivo, and bus would leave there fro all around the country. The fee is cheep like around $7 for the 350km transfer from Antananarivo to Toamasina.
Anyway there is very limited space between passengers in bus, sheets are hard and it would take around 10 hours, the trip would be not easy. Also because there is no room to put baggages in cars, all baggages in some cases including bicycles and even chickens would be put on the roof of cars. I alway become anxious “wow the car may turn over…”
